6 Places to Use Track Lighting in Your Home

Track lighting is a versatile solution when you need to illuminate a work space, accent a special piece of art or simply enhance the lighting you already have in a room. It’s also easy to install track lighting. The track generally connects to your electrical system via a single ceiling box. Most tracks fit three or more light heads, which you can arrange in different positions. Some can be attached to the wall, as well. Check out the available choices at online stores like Lumens Light + Living and Bellacor, including unique colors and finishes, incandescent, LED and halogen light heads, and all-inclusive kits and individual parts for creating your unique system. Here are some ways to incorporate this type of lighting into your home:
1. Kitchens
Install a linear track system near counters and appliances to give you extra lighting for cutting vegetables, cooking dinner and washing the dishes. Or, hang U-shaped lighting over an island or breakfast bar for gentle early morning illumination or a decorative accent.
2. Hallways
A long, straight or flexible track light removes dark corners from a hallway, while putting an accent on a special piece of artwork or a beautiful vase of flowers arranged atop a wall table. Pick a system with enough room for at least five light heads to take advantage of multiple opportunities.
3. Home Office
This is an essential office solution. Arrange one light head so that it shines from behind your chair onto the desk for more light when completing paperwork or working at a computer. Shine another onto a comfortable chair for better light when reading. Other lights can be angled to illuminate a cool print, plant or other decorative accent.
4. Bathrooms
The bathroom is a fantastic place to hang track lighting because of the many tasks people do there. Angle one light head to make it easier to see how to get in and out of the tub, and arrange two more heads so you can see more clearly when using the mirror. Be sure to angle the lights toward the floor near the mirror so it doesn’t create a glare. Other lights can be turned toward a dark closet or cabinet for easier access.
5. Closets
Because closets don’t have windows to let in natural light, a system can make the dark corners instantly more useful. This will work well hung in a traditional configuration from the ceiling or hung vertically on the closet wall. With more light, you’ll be able to find a special outfit pressed into the back of your closet or locate a favorite sweater that’s been lost at the bottom of the closet for months.

6. Recreation Rooms
Shine two or three track heads on different corners of a pool table or ping pong table to make it easier for players to stay on top of the action, while a small system near a television creates a theater atmosphere.

Home Renovation can include many things. Some types of Home Renovation would be Kitchens: removing the existing cabinets, counter tops, appliances, light fixtures, wall paper etc. Either going back with the same lay out or a new one. If a new lay out is desired the plumbing and electrical would have to be moved to allow for the new location. New cabinets would be installed. New counter tops. New light fixtures, maybe even under counter lighting with a separate switch. New base trim, window and door trim and maybe crown moulding. Home Renovation of the kitchen usually means a new floor of some type. Hardwood flooring is very popular with the kitchen. Also ceramic tile or a natural stone is very popular. Many people doing a Home Renovation of the kitchen like to have a tile backsplash also. We can add some cab lights on a dimmer, pendant lighting over a bar. Updated energy efficient appliances can be installed also. Some like the counter depth refrigerator, others like the traditional style refrigerator.
Home Renovation of the bathroom is also very popular. This usually entails demolishing the existing bathroom area all the way down to the studs and sub floor. Then moving plumbing and electrical to allow for the new floor plan. Installing new drywall where needed, cabinets and trim. Tile would be added for the shower and the flooring. The shower might have multiple shower heads or even a body spray system. Some clients like to add a Rinnai tankless hot water heater while doing a Home Renovation bathroom remodel. Most people are using granite counter tops, but there are other types to choose from. This is the time to add an exhaust fan if you don’t have one or to upgrade the one you have. Code requires one in the potty area if it is separate and one in the bath area to control moisture.
Home Renovation of the basement can provide much needed space for a home a fraction of the cost to build the same space from the ground up. Most basements we do have a bathroom, wet bar, sometimes a theater room, if it has a window or door for egress it may have a bedroom. A small kitchen is nice for entertaining, with a separate oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. This can be a great place for a pool table, ping-pong table or other games such as foos ball or air hockey. For a more dramatic affect we can put in can lights along with a few fans. We usually finish it a notch below the trim level of the first floor unless the first floor is really basic. When we install a theater room we like to use insulation all around it and a sound type door to keep the sound in the room. We also install quite a few bars in basements. This can be a basic one or even an elaborate design. A dance floor is nice in a basement provided there is enough room for it. An exercise room is usually a must in a Home Renovation of the basement. Usually you want to leave some space unfinished for storage. Some basements actually have a boat door to allow you to store a boat or extra vehicle in the basement. A work shop is nice to have also, especially if it has a door to the outside. To have a bedroom in the basement you have to have egress, which means an appropriate window or door in the room where someone would be sleeping. I have seen people put bedrooms back in a hole where there is no way out and this is very dangerous. If there was a fire and someone was sleeping down there they might not be able to get out. Asphalt shingles can be bought in replacement strips from local roofing supply stores. Strips can come in as low as three shingles per strip however matching the same texture and color to the existing shingles can be a problem. Find a strip that matches the color as closely as possible, pick up a pair of tin snips if you do not already have some, a water proofing adhesive and roofing nails.

Some days you just need your child to work on something by himself. Usually when you’re really stressed it’s hard to think of activities for him to do.
Here’s a list that might be helpful to print out for those occasions!
* Give your child two rolls of pennies and let her put the coins into a piggy bank.
* Bring out the cookie cutters and homemade clay. (the simple homemade kind doesn’t stick or make as much of a mess as commercial play clay)
* Make a necklace with yarn and ziti pasta or fruity loop cereal.
* Give your child a couple of large boxes to play with.
* Offer your child a pencil and a pad of post-it notes. You’d be amazed at how long this activity can keep a little one occupied!
* Load up the refrigerator door with magnets of all kinds and let the fun begin!
* Sort sea shells and place into an egg carton.
* Have your child put a sock on her hand and help “dust” the furniture.
* Get a bag of 15 bean soup. Let your child sort beans or glue onto a piece of cardboard.
* Shine a large flashlight on the wall and let child make hand shadows. Sure, you’ll use up a few batteries, but sanity is worth a couple bucks!
* Let him measure objects around the house with a small retractable measuring tape.
* My niece loved this activity –even before she could walk! I’d give her a small bowl of water, a toothbrush, and some baking soda. She’d sit and “scrub” the kitchen floor and keep pointing to more baking soda!
* Make leaf rubbings by placing a sheet of paper over a leaf and coloring over it with a crayon. You can do coin rubbings, shell rubbings, etc.
* Chalk on dark paper makes for a fun activity.
* Have your child try to bounce ping pong balls into a small wastebasket.
* Provide a stack of magazines that need the “cards” taken out of the middle. Funny how these simple activities can provide so much fun!
* Pitch a tent! A large sheet over a card table or 4 chairs makes a great imaginary playground. Invite some stuffed animals over for extra fun!
* Provide a few plastic kitchen utensils and some old pots and pans to play with.
* Children love to use unusual items like a hole punch. Simply provide a few sheets of colorful paper, and the fun can last for a good half-hour!
These activities all provide important independent learning time for preschoolers. Fun and games lead to “brain gain”!

It is used in the toughest industrial settings, waterproof and resistant to acids and chemicals. It is seamless and non-porous, preventing the growth of mold or bacteria. It is also economical, costing from about $3.
Epoxy flooring is growing in popularity for residential garage floors. Many of today’s garages serve purposes other than parking the car, making a more finished space appealing. Some garages are turned into game rooms with pool tables or ping pong tables and dart boards. Others serve as hobby areas or double as kid’s playrooms in addition to car parking. Epoxy coating provides an attractive, easy-maintenance floor that is ideal for the garage. It has the added benefit of protecting the concrete floor from oil and other chemical stains to add longer life to an untreated floor.
Other areas of the home where epoxy flooring is an excellent choice are basements, laundry rooms, and even the kitchens with many different decorative options. Choices include unlimited solid colors or combinations and patterns such as striping, squares, terrazzo or marbleized looks. The floor can be customized to create any design and work with any style. Any area that is prone to moisture is a candidate for epoxy flooring since it is waterproof, preventing water from seeping through into the substrate beneath.
Commercial and industrial uses for epoxy flooring include restaurant and hotel kitchens, sanitary hospital flooring, retail stores, warehouses, showrooms, kennels, commercial garages, office buildings, schools, and anywhere else heavy-duty floors are a requirement. Epoxy coatings are also valuable in areas that tend to get slippery and where added traction in needed, like ramps, loading docks, walkways, aisles, and more. Epoxy coatings can be used directly on top of concrete or other floor materials, including damaged floors.
Though there are do-it-yourself epoxy coatings for residential use, for the most long-lasting and beautiful results, professional application is recommended. Professional application for commercial and industrial use is always recommended. Substrate preparation is essential and proper application is something that requires practice and expertise to ensure that the epoxy floor has the look and performance to do the job expected and to last for many years of service.
