I think you’re misinterpreting what I said. Liqin’s backhand has always been great. He’s almost never lost a backhand to backhand rally. Even though he doesn’t have a strong attack or flip he’s always had a great block and drive. His placement has always been strong on the backhand and it shows that he now knows how to use it against Long. Long’s backhand has definitely improved as well, but I would say Liqin has him outclassed in comparison. It’s obvious in this game even Long thinks so.

i wouldnt say wang liqins backhand is better than ma longs, ma will win a heck of a lot more points with his than wang will, wang doesnt seem to have the mentality to rip a backhand winner, he’s much happier just blocking and punching with his backhand to set up for the forehand and when you have a forehand like his why not?! but his backhand is good enough to be able to stifle ma longs, which is why he was running round, but wangs backhand isnt the killer weapon that ma longs is.

it was an ittf error

@toasty06 tuning is common occurance in TT today. wang liqin didnt cheat because hes just doign what every one else is doing to even out the playing field. in kuwait he tuned it a bit too much, leading to overexpansion of the sponge

The umpire’s beard is ridic.

Go Wang Liqin, you tall ass mofo. @__@
April 5th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
Makes you wonder if he tuned his bat at this event aswell given what happened in Kuwait..

WOW wang liqin

@TheGreve Actually Ma Long has had to do that. Liqin’s Backhand has always been great and with his new practice partner (Ma Long) he now has a much better backhand than Ma Long does. Liqin is now familiar with Ma Long’s backhand so you can tell Ma wanted to try to get in a forehand rally on the backhand side.

@NightcruiserMA I totally agree Liqin is a top player and I don’t think he’s out for the count. He’s been practicing in Ma Long’s Group which I think is what has really upped his game. With the speed glue ban he’s had so much trouble adjusting to the new players, but I’ve seen more videos of him practicing with Ma Long which is sure to help him beat the new top seed. I feel another Liqin reign coming

YES!!! Wang Liqin… my favorite Chinese player ever. I thought he was getting a little too old to compete, but geez, he’s looking good now. Go Liqin!!

I’m really confused in the beginning. I don’t know if you are adding the scores’ screen, but it keeps saying the other player is winning the point. At one point Ma Long wins a point and then the score says Liqin won the game. Are your edits perhaps out of order?
April 5th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
yeah your right
April 5th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
@ 3:06, when they repeat the previous point, its just stupid from the camera man who keeps moving the camera left and right as if he coulndt catch the action with the camera being still!! lol
April 5th, 2010 at 6:49 pm
@takkyuHero it looks like they have the scores backwards for the first game. From 3-4 to 3-5 to 3-6…. all of those points WLQ won, but they showed up on Ma Long’s side of the digital scoreboard on the screen. I noticed that too.

It was obvious why Ma Long lost. He didn’t play very well for a start, but he kept playing in the diagonals and in the middle all the time! He was lost every time Liquin played a backhand in his forehand, but he kept playing his backhands in Liquin’s backhand.

people have had time to analyse the new tt stars. they now know how to play them.
evidence: liu shiwen, was beating everyone when she was on the rise. after people read her game, she was beaten by people (with much more experience than her) like guo yan
same here with wlq (more experience) reading ma longs game.
April 5th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
I don’t get the point at 0:42. Didn’t WLQ lose the point?
April 5th, 2010 at 11:26 pm
I love this match
April 6th, 2010 at 12:10 am
His feet were dead the whole game, his reflexes were slow and he hit a bunch of forehands into the net, that’s not like him.
