In this article I would like to tell you how to prevent body pain that happens as a result of exercise. You see, many of the aches and body pains that people experience as a result of exercise can actually be prevented by following these 5 simple rules.

Rule 1 -  Warm Up the Body – Before engaging in any physical activity, the body must be warmed up. Basic things like jumping jacks, waist twists or light bouncing will do the trick. The warm up is used to get the blood moving, warm up the muscles, break the synovial capsules to release their joint fluid and to prevent injury. Simple range-of-motion movements will elevate respiration enough to make a difference before you start.

Rule 2 – Stretch Before and After – Once the body is warm, the muscles are ready to be stretched. You do not necessarily need to do intensive full body stretches before playing ping pong, but loosening the major muscles you will use in your activity is a must. As long as the muscle stretches are held within normal range of motion, and until tension is released, they will be effective. The important point is this: Stretch to feel good, not to be flexible. With that in mind, you won’t overstretch and cause injury.

Rule 3 – Target Weak Muscles – If you are doing strength training, be sure to vary your routine and target the weaker muscles. The larger muscles do in fact depend on the weaker and smaller ones to hold the body frame in place. Yet most people forget about the small guys in favor of making the big guys even bigger. Needless to say, they feel pain from muscle imbalances. So avoid this exercise pain by targeting the smaller and weaker muscles as part of your ongoing routine.

Rule 4 – Reduce Pain and Inflammation – Injuries like strains, tears and inflammation hamper exercise progress and overall health. It is therefore important to begin the healing process as soon as possible. If an injury is acute, it is best to apply cold within the first 5 minutes to reduce swelling. Ice packs, ice cubes, a frozen bag of peas or cold gels can be applied. On for 20 minutes, off for 20 minutes, continue as necessary. When swelling is down and the pain cycle is broken, stop the cold and apply heat. This will bring oxygen and nutrient rich blood to the area to relax muscles, remove waste products and promote healing. How Gaming can Prepare you for a Career in IT

I got my first Commodore 64 in the early 80’s when I was around 7.  The Commodore 64’s manual came with code samples for the basic programming language so I would type the code in myself to see if I could make a balloon move diagonally across the screen.  For some reason I remember it was white on the blue background with what I assume was a “C” in the middle.  This was my first taste of programming and how I could use a computer to make a game (although not a very fun game, just watching a balloon move.)

Flash forward to my college years when I got my first “modern” pc with the windows 3.1 operating system.  Anyone who has tried to install a pc game knows there are sometimes major problems that you need to resolve before running World of Warcraft, Counter Strike or Spore.  Problems like the wrong version of direct x, incompatible video card drivers, and lower than needed machine capacity like memory.  Microsoft has made some advancement in this area with Windows XP and even the much disliked Vista, but there are still plenty of crashes during game play to deal with.

Working through these issues to get a game running gives you a lot of the skills you need to become a desktop support technician in an IT job.  The main responsibilities of this job are to troubleshoot pc issues, install software and make hardware changes like adding memory.  A lot of the best IT people I know are also gamers.  This is a great entry level IT job with many paths to grow.  From this job you can advance to higher level desktop support, move into server support or become an IT manager.  The options are endless and lucrative.

If you’ve ever attended a LAN party you’ve seen the networking skills that are required to get everyone networked together to play.  This is a path to a Network Engineer.  These are the people responsible for among other things connecting all pc’s, servers and other hardware together through a network.  This is another great path with many ways to grow in the job.

This next one is in my opinion the most difficult path, it is to learn programming languages to write your own independent video games.  There are some amazing indie games out there.  I would love to work for Rockstar Games and attach ping pong balls to horses for motion capture, but I did not go that route and do not have the skills.

All of the professions listed here will take some extra training, but the skills you have 
already acquired put you ahead of anyone trying to get the same position without the experience gained from your passion for playing video games.

Remember when someone tells you that you’re wasting your time playing video games, you are also building some valuable skills that can lead you into a future career.

There may be many factors involved in the failure of children with learning difficulties to read well, and I would like to touch on some of these in this article. As a practitioner who has successfully worked with these children for over 20 years, I feel that I have some practical things I can contribute to the debate on learning disabilities, especially with regard to the reading proficiency of these children.

Step 1: Make Sure They Can Concentrate!

If you want children with learning disabilities to improve their reading speed, the first thing you must do is to make sure they are concentrating properly. As a Behavioral Optometrist, I look to the visual system to solve this problem, because I know that and unresolved refractive problems in their eyes, like long sight for example, can dramatically affect a child’s concentration. Also, if a child is lacking in their focus or their eye coordination, this too can decrease their ability to concentrate. Children With Learning Disabilities Articles

In these instances, they put so much effort into just holding the page clear and single, they have very little available for anything else, and tired due to the extreme effort required to perform the task. Step 2: Make Sure They Know The Words!

Children with learning disabilities almost always have a decrease sight word vocabulary, so when they read they are constantly coming across words that they do not know.

The vision therapy I have designed spends a lot of time directly working with visualization and visual memory, and we have had spectacular success over many years increasing children’s ability to retain spelling words.

Step 3: Help Them Control their Eye Movements!

Eye movement control is essential if a child is to flow in their reading. If you find that adding a ruler under the line of words helps their reading speed, then chances are that they have a significant eye movement problem. The ruler helps, sure, but how much more effective would it be to train the child’s eye movements so that they have accurate and adequate control.

In my therapy, I use a variety of techniques to help children with learning disabilities control their eyes correctly. I am able to help you do the same in the comfort of your own home, using balls, string, charts, marbles and a whole host of fun things.

The great news for these children is that, in addition to improving their reading speed and thereby helping their learning disabilities, training eye movements can also help their sport, especially for small ball sports such as baseball, cricket, tennis and ping pong!

But the greatest reward is that, if we train a child’s eye movements correctly, they will begin to flow and add expression to their reading, and they will also become far less frustrated and angry with reading. If it is easy to flow and draw the meaning out of our reading, it becomes a much more enjoyable task.
